How to Use a Printed Board

1. Click Print above. Your browser opens a clean board and its print dialog. Select a printer or choose Save as PDF if your browser offers it.
2. Choose two piece colors. Coins, buttons, or paper circles work; make sure each piece is small enough to leave nearby intersections visible. For a permanent record, use two pencil symbols instead.
3. Place pieces on intersections. Black goes first, then players alternate one stone at a time. The lines cross under the pieces; stones do not go inside the square cells.
4. Agree on the win condition. This site's browser game uses exactly five in an unbroken row. A printed grid has no rule enforcement, so decide together whether an overline counts before starting.

Which size should you print?

The 9×9 grid gets both players into contact quickly and is useful for teaching turns, blocking, and the basic five-stone goal. The 13×13 grid gives more room to form and answer threats without making the first game feel sprawling. The 15×15 grid is the size used in formal Renju, though a sheet of paper alone does not apply Renju's opening procedure or Black-only forbidden moves. Choose the size based on the lesson you want to practice, not an assumed difficulty label.

For position review, write move numbers beside each mark or keep a separate list such as “1 H8, 2 I8.” Numbering makes it possible to reconstruct the moment when a player missed a block. If you plan to reuse a sheet, put it in a transparent sleeve and use wipe-off markers on the sleeve. To practice with an opponent on another device instead, use the private browser room; a printed board cannot synchronize moves.
